As a nurse practitioner, I enjoy practicing in the area of family medicine because it allows me to work with patients from birth to the elderly. Family medicine also allows me to provide care for a wide variety of health concerns. It is especially rewarding to build relationships with families as I work with them to achieve wellness by caring for the whole patient. Especially when it comes to pediatric patients, that means taking the time to consider a parent’s concerns and to provide the education needed so they know what to expect in the care of their child. This holistic approach is so important in building a good relationship with patients and their families. Exceptional care begins with listening to patients and working with them to develop the best plan of care to fit their needs.
